Before photographing this incredible wedding at the Box House Hotel in Brooklyn, a few years ago Jared reached out and asked if I could meet him on a rooftop in NYC and photograph him proposing to his girlfriend.
The plan?
His girlfriend Sophie had recently written a piece about their relationship, and it was featured in the Modern Love Section of the New York Times. So pretending to be a NYT Editor, Jared’s friend emailed Sophie asking her to come for a “follow up interview” that entailed a photoshoot with Jared with a New York Times photographer (yours truly).
So on a summer evening I found myself on a fabulous rooftop in NYC, holding a clipboard, meeting this beautiful couple and saying things like,
“Daniel’s finishing up an interview, we shall start with your photos.”
When Jared got down on one knee a few minutes into our session, a shocked Sophie said “yes!” And a couple of years + another beautiful rooftop later, I had the honor of photographing their Wedding at The Box House Hotel overlooking the New York City skyline.
After a rehearsal dinner at My Moon in Brooklyn, these two got ready with their family. Sophie wore a necklace passed down by the women in her family, and her bridesmaids picked their own dresses within a pastel color scheme. Vows were said through tears under the chuppah, before dancing the night away (crowd surfing included) with the glowing NYC skyline as a backdrop.
Sophie and Jared are some of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever meet and I have so much love for this day and their story!
