When our friends asked if Spencer and I would photograph their 10 year Scotland vow renewal, the response was a “YAAAASSS” that spilled the water I was sipping.
On a windy, cloudy, day barreling straight into a Scottish winter, the 6 of us (Tom, Kelsey, their two daughters Isla, Alessia, Spencer and I) hiked up Conic Hill, before turning off the main path into a secluded valley complete with sheep, and a lake view.
Here, Tom gathered the wildflower bouquet he’d spent the morning picking, and Kelsey bravely traded hiking boots for bare feet. Swapping their coats and hats for a suit and dress, they met in the valley as a worship song-the one Kelsey walked down the aisle to 10 years ago- echoed from the bluetooth speaker held by their girls.
Isla and Alessia watched as their parents read promises from the journals they’ve carried all over the world, and over the hills, the sun came out for the first time in days.
When they finished, Kelsey and Tom gathered the girls and prayed over their family. And we were standing on Holy ground.
10 years of marriage, two incredible girls, and 2 years of full time travel. What an honor it is to know two people who choose each other again and again- fighting for the heart of their family, and bringing the people they meet along for the ride and into joy.
